Big Boy vs L-131 - May 14th 2022

A couple of folks have asked how does the D&RGW L-131 that the shop built in 2008, compare to the new Big Boy in town.

Standing in front track is #3601, the D&RGW L-131 coming in at 65 inches long coupler to coupler.  On the back track is Big Boy #4018 coming in at 71 inches, coupler to coupler. Both are heavy weight fighters, ready to do battle with the level track on the CWRR.  By far, Big Boy is the heavier of the two, but the L-131 can hold it's own when it comes to sheer pulling power.  If the boss ever says to double head the two, I think they could pull the walls down!  I hope both engines have a long life on the railroad.  I know one thing, the scrapper's torch will never touch either one, if I have anything to say about it.   Well, there you have it, another great day working on the railroad.
