Union Pacific  Big Boy  4018

Upper Boiler - Sep. 11th 2021

Guys,  the boys in the shop have been putting their rear in gear and have been cranking out the details on the boiler above the running boards. Since the sand domes have been adjusted in height, I turned the boys loose on getting the details done on them and the rest of the boiler. The boys in the fabrication shop had to turn the brass pop valves with the shop lathe, and also built the brass bell bracket. The boys in the plumbing shop did all the conduit for the wiring from the generator to the class lamps and number boards.   When I step back and look at the engine, it really is starting to look like a Big Boy now, but there is so much more to do. It seems that this project will never end after a year in the works, but I keep the boys focused and we can see the light at the end of the tunnel. (More train talk) Well, I hope you see something of intrest with this update. I will update you on the major steam piping next time, but until then, keep the train on the track, and heading in the right direction.  Thanks, Barry  -  Chief director of BLW, still building the trains of my dreams, even if it takes forever......
