Tender Trucks Built

Here are the trucks for the Vanderbilt tank-style tender.  First a 'master' side frame is constructed, then a mold of it made, then urethane castings for the final side frames.  Plus the custom frame and bolster for the final truck assemble.  Read Barry's notes below for more details.

"Just a quick update from the shop floor of BLW. The boys in the casting shop have been busy, making the pattern for the side frame of the tender trucks. Once the pattern was complete, it was off to the casting shop, while the boys in the erection shop fabricated the bearing block assemble, that holds the Piko wheel sets. The Piko wheel sets come gauged for narrow gauge, so the boys made new insulated tubes to hold the wheels in standard gauge, 64mm. Since the Piko wheelsets come with inside bearings on the wheels from the factory, the boys decided to take advantage of this free rolling feature and build a block, with brass U channel for holding the bearings in place, as well as power pick up. Once all the casting were made, they were mounted to the blocks and all the brake details added."  - -  Barry
