D&RGW - Spring Division

Denver & Rio Grande Western - Spring Division

Craig Brantley’s O/On3 scale, model railroad in Spring, Texas Set in the Rocky Mountains in Colorado, the Spring Division is based on the Rio Grande railroad, both the standard and narrow gauge lines that ran in that region. The base of operations is the town of Durango, with a branch line running up the mountains to the town of Spring. Modeling in 1/48 scale, O scale, the layout features a dual gauge main line with some dual gauge in the Durango yard, and the 3 foot, narrow gauge, branch line, traversing the mountainous terrain, crossing trestles and high cliffs. There are various scratch built models on this layout, including buildings and bridges, and weathered rolling stock. With 85% scenery complete, many town details are getting attention. Designed for both operations and casuual running, the layout uses EasyDCC to control sound equipped locomotives. During an “operating sessions”, Crews use wireless throttles and a Train Manifest generated by RailOp software, to switch cars. A job can last an hour and sessions last about 3 hours, with 3-4 people, each running 2 or 3 trains. * F Y I * layout will open for tours during the 2022 San Jac Fall Layout tours, on Saturday Nov 12th and Sunday Nov 13th * News * layout was featured in the November 2021 issue of Trackside Model Railroading magazine, with a DVD coming soon * Alert * website is being rebuilt from scratch after 18 years, all new pages, this is the initial site - Mobile pages not enabled yet
